Adulting 101-Your Money: How to spend, save, and survive like a BOSS!
This course serves as a bridge between what money skills may have been taught in school or home compared to those skills that are needed in the adult world. It is generally considered the "1st topic to take" as all other courses base some knowledge off of this one (everything seems to take money). Topics include, but are not limited to: Tips, Basic Budgeting, Savings and Checking accounts, Paying bills, Credit Cards, Credit reports and Scores, Basic taxes, Apartment and House leases and expenses, and Basic Home Buying. Course length is 8 classes over one month on varying days. This is the first in a series of classes designed to prepare young adults for the world beyond school. Snacks provided! Adulting 102-Your Health and Safety: Surviving in a World that Doesn’t Seem to Care
The second in a series of classes designed to prepare young adults for the world beyond school, these lessons focus on your personal health and staying safe in both the adult and cyber worlds. Classes include, but aren’t limited to: your mental health, stress management, doctor’s appointments, health insurance, choosing medicines at the pharmacy, your personal heath information, vitamins and supplements, social media, identity theft, catfishing and phishing, and cyber-bullying. This course covers 18 topics over 9 classes and is designed to help young adults take charge of their own health and arm them against the forces of evil that would see them fail in caring for themselves. Adulting 103-Jobs and Careers: How to work for it, deal with people, your co-workers, and your boss
This section focuses on those skills needed for employment in today's world. Topics covered are designed to aid and assist the young adult in preparing for the workforce. Classes include soft skills, resume's and resume' writing, interviewing, what jobs should and shouldn't pay, how to negotiate on your own behalf, dressing for success, marketable skills, job applications and how to fill them out, work etiquette, and what employer's are looking for in a prospective employee. Classes are broken down into 17 blocks taught over 10 sessions. Interview day will be a double class length with mock interviews conducted by several local employers and leaders in the area. Adulting 104-your Ride: Taking care of your vehicle so it will take care of you
This series of classes focuses on the care and maintenance of your vehicle. Lessons are designed to give any vehicle owner the confidence to properly perform basic maintenance and the tools to find a proper vehicle mechanic should one be needed. Classes cover oil changes, tires (both air pressure and changing), fluids, check engine lights, how to find a mechanic who won't rip you off, titles, registration, insurance, buying a car and the cost of ownership, selling a car, as well as other lessons. Adulting 105-Living on your own: How to have a cool place that you would actually invite somebody over to
This series of classes focuses on the care of your apartment or home, as well as helping with the basic skills needed to survive on your own. Lessons include, but are not limited to, clearing a clogged toilet, a clogged sink, basic tools, hanging pictures and shelves, mending clothes, sewing on buttons, laundry, grocery shopping on a budget, cooking without a microwave, ironing your clothes, how to make a real dinner for two on less than $10.00, the costs of owning a pet, and others. Adulting 106-The rest: Adult Responsibilities, Civic duties, and the finer points of Adulting
This last block of classes covers the balance of what's left. These classes are designed to help the young adult understand better the responsibilities of adulthood as well as their civic duties as a citizen of this country. It also encompasses those classes that didn't fit well into any other category. Therefore this is probably the most "Fun" of the groups. Sessions include, but aren't limited to, important documents and how to care for them, jury duty, handling the loss of a job, dealing with loss, voting, how to be neighborly, how to talk to people vs. texting, building a fire, using the post office and mailing letters, how to accept responsibility and be accountable, critical thinking skills, and real vs. fake news.
